On September 30th, HK celebrated it's annual Lantern Festival, known as Mid Autumn Festival. We had a holiday on that Monday, and the week before, on Sept. 27th we had a big lantern festival at our school from 6-8pm. All the students in our primary school made lanterns during art class and hung those lanterns outside. Since the owner and principal of our school, Mrs. Pei, owns many Kindergartens, all of the Funful Kindergartens were invited to our school for the festival. All the teachers helped at the booths, which were all games related to the festival. I worked at a booth in which the students had to choose pictures or Chinese words that were related to the lantern festival. If they got the right answer, they received a stamp, which was later for a raffle.
It was mostly K-P3 students that attended. Some of the little kids were dressed up in cute traditional Chinese dresses. They looked adorable! Parents were also with their young ones so it was quite busy in our school yard. Check out the pics!
On the actual day of the festival, Keith and I went to watch the big firework show in TST. Luckily, TST is quite close to us, so we were able to walk home from there that night. During the day, though, we went early and visited the history museum and then walked around Kowloon park (it's really large and beautiful). As the sun was starting to set, we made our way to Avenue of the Stars to find seating early before the fireworks began. At about 7ish we made it there, but the crowds were already starting to come. We found a secret entrance to the area and made our way to the Starbucks. We grabbed some Chai Teas and hummus wraps and went to the roof for a perfect view. There we stayed for 2 hours until the fireworks finally started at 8:45pm. It was a great spot since we were above the bustling crowd below us, and we had a good view of the fireworks.
I was surprised at how long the show lasted and how powerful each firework was. It definitely was one of the best firework shows I've seen. I was impressed!
